This is a joint reading with John Wedgwood Clarke, who is a poet and prose writer with an unhealthy interest in dumps and middens – and a somewhat healthier one in the sea and the weird and wonderful life therein, which feature prominently in his amazing debut collection Ghost Pot. As my novel Herring Girl is set partly in the fishing port of North Shields in 1898, and also includes some of the less savoury aspects of life at that time, you can expect a pretty fishy couple of readings. But I’m also happy to talk about writing, getting published, gender reassignment and reincarnation…
